I am employed at a BIPOC women-owned massage company that has a majority-Black work force. I'm so proud to be a part of this amazing team of women! Working here has been such an incredible experience for me.
My journey to the United States began when I was just a young girl in Panama. My family made the courageous decision to move to Linden, New Jersey, and I am now five years into my journey. Working in this massage company has been a great way to learn, grow and help others.
I take great joy in my work because I get to work with such amazing women every day. I am constantly inspired by their strength and courage. We are all united in the same goal - to provide an excellent Womens Massage experience for our clients.
The most important thing I've learned while working here is the power of women working together. When we come together with a shared purpose, the results are truly incredible. We are able to support each other in ways that are beyond our individual abilities.
One example of this is when a client came in speaking Spanish. My coworker and I were able to work together to understand the client's needs and provide the best massage possible. Even though I was still learning Spanish, my coworker was there to help me understand. We were able to provide the client with an amazing experience, and at the end she said, “Muchas gracias, ustedes dos son muy amables” (Thank you very much, you two are very kind).
I'm also reminded of the power of women when I think of my grandmother and aunt. Growing up, they taught me that no matter what life throws at you, you can make it through if you stay strong and work together. This is something I carry with me every day and it has become even more meaningful to me now that I'm in the United States.
Working in this massage company has taught me that the power of women working together can be truly transformative. I am so thankful to be a part of this amazing team, and I look forward to the wonderful experiences that await us!
I love taking walks in the woods on Staten Island. There's something so peaceful about the trees, the birds and the gentle breeze. I find myself feeling at home among the trees, feeling connected to something larger than myself. My heart is filled with reverence when I'm walking in the woods, and I'm grateful to be able to experience this peacefulness.
